Our Vision for Youth Ministry

Youth are the future of not only the church, but our world at large! Our vision is that youth will discover their own passion and faith for God, so that they may form a more personal connection with God, scripture, prayer, and develop a spirituality that they can take with them as they learn to navigate  life in our complicated world.

Building Community (B.C.)
  • We will prioritize the need to deepen relationships among students and volunteers.
  • We will strive to create a welcoming environment where students can feel at ease, be themselves, and be invitational in bringing others, fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Recognizing that “newness” can be intimidating, we will prioritize begin a place where new students feel accepted and welcomed, reducing their anxiety and helping them integrate into our community
  • Building a community requires fun outlet. We will plan outing that promote fun and laughter for the students involved.
  • We will develop a communication system of encouragement through social media, texts, and “snail” mail.
  • We will seek to solidify a “team” among the volunteers. In essence, volunteers, as well as students need to be part of a community of their peers.

Teaching the Basics of the Christian Faith (“Plant It!”)
  • We will strive to connect the dots about the Christian faith, its roots, reason, and relevance.
  • An essential part of our ministry will be connecting the fundamental beliefs of faith with their relevance for life today. The old story continues to be new as it is experienced and understood by spiritual seekers today.
  • We will seek to discuss and explore the issues that arise during adolescence. We will prioritize the need to see life through Jesus’ eyes and words.
  • We will develop a discipling/coaching/mentoring mindset that will have leaders come alongside students as they grow in their faith or the searching phase of their lives.
  • The youth minister will facilitate training, coaching, and mentoring of the youth volunteers.

Being Active Disciples (A.D.)
  • We will develop ways for the students to be mentored and involved in ministry as a part of the church.
  • We will investigate involvement in mission and ministry outside the church, in the community, and in other places.
Please contact Pastor Bill with any questions about FBC Youth Ministry.

Location

Who we ARe:

We are a historic American Baptist Church in burgeoning downtown Colorado Springs, where its members have been worshiping on the same corner since 1872. We are an ecumenically-minded body, partnering across denominational lines to serve the most vulnerable in our community. Our membership is comprised of people who spread the gamut theologically, racially, politically, and economically. FBC-CS strives to practice a tradition of inclusiveness in all we do.
