6/17: Nature Walk at Bear Creek Nature Center, 9:00 AM -- Registration deadline is June 3.
In keeping with Pastor Dan’s sabbatical theme “praying and playing,” FBC has scheduled three nature walks that we might think of as “contemplative adventures.” These outings—led by professional guides at three Colorado Springs Nature Centers—will be opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the beauty and wonders of the natural world. Each walk will be approximately one mile each way (going and coming). At stops along the way, informative talks by the guides will focus on the flora, fauna, and perhaps geology of their area. Photos and short videos that could be shared with the church family are encouraged.
The nature walks are free for FBCers. Each walk will begin at 9:00; suggested arrival time is 8:45. Strongly recommended: hat, sunscreen, water, and good (closed-toes) walking shoes.
Please register online at least two weeks ahead of your event. Group size is limited to 20; but if interest dictates, we may be able to schedule a second group at the same time.

Pastor Dan's Calendar:
6/6: Day Retreat -- Sabbath rest isn't just about the cessation of work, but also about connecting with God. To that end, Pastor Dan will bookend the sabbatical with a day set aside for the express purpose of prayer and setting a tone of prayer for the summer.
6/7-6/25: Reconnecting with Friends/Family -- Most of June will be spent in Wyoming where Dan and Christen grew up. The days will be spent fishing with friends, reconnecting with family, celebrating Christen's dad's 70th birthday, and giving thanks for all the gifts that come with visiting "home."
7/3-7/10: Renewing a Sense of Adventure -- In their 20 years of marriage, Dan and Christen have never had the opportunity to travel internationally together. Thanks to the Clergy Renewal Grant, they will embark on an adventure to Belize to do some salt flats fishing and to explore a new place together. They will be joined there by close friends.
7/17-7/31: Renewing a Sense of Curiosity -- For many years, Eugene Peterson has been Dan's "pastor-in-writing." On this leg of the sabbatical, Dan and Christen roadtrip to Montana to explore Peterson's home terrain around Flathead Lake in Northwest Montana. Before he died, Peterson would invite young pastors to stay with him at his cabin for conversation and reflection. More than any other portion of the summer, Dan sees this trip as a spiritual pilgrimage -- seeing the place that had such a profound impact on someone who has had such a profound impact on Dan's calling as a pastor. Along the way, they will fish some of Montana's great rivers (of course), explore Glacier National Park, and make a trip to Yellowstone on their way back.
8/3: Renewing Our Vows -- On their anniversary, Dan and Christen will renew their vows to one another in the place where they celebrated their wedding reception 20 years ago! Family and life-long friends will join them as they give thanks for the blessing of the first 20 years of marriage and commitment themselves to the next season of marriage. **Mark your calendars, as the church will host a livestream watch part in the sanctuary of their renewal service.
8/4-8/21: The Honeymoon We Never Got -- When they first married, Dan and Christen had to abandon their dream of a honeymoon in Alaska. The Clergy Renewal Grant has made it possible for them to take the honeymoon they never got! The day after they renew their vows, they will fly to Anchorage and spend some time seeing the sights and connecting with the son of FBC's former Pastor, Rev. Ward Hurlburt. Dan will stay on an extra week and take part in a fishing adventure on Kodiak Island.
8/22-9/10: Exploring Home with Renewed Vision -- After a summer of praying and playing, Dan will return to Colorado for the final portion of his sabbatical. He will spend the days regaining rhythm and routine, exploring Colorado, and unpacking the summer away.
9/11: Welcome Home Sunday -- Dan and Christen will be back at FBC for the first time in 14 weeks, eager to reconnect with his family of faith. On this Sunday, he will lead us in Communion together as we reconnect around the Lord's Table.
