Ecumenical Social Ministries

What is it?

Ecumenical Social Ministries (or ESM) is a downtown nonprofit organization that serves individuals facing low-income or homeless circumstances. It is an outreach ministry established (in 1982) and maintained by the eight historic downtown churches. ESM assists with emergency social service needs, promotes self-sufficiency, and restores dignity to all the individuals and families they serve.

How did FBC get connected?

Our congregation was one of the initial eight founding congregations. A number of our folks have served as volunteers (providing help with the hands-on services) and board members (casting the vision for ESM’s future).

How can you get involved?

As a ministry partner, we are the Jam & Jelly church for ESM. Along with other food donations, we collect jams and jellies year-round for ESM’s clients in need of food. ESM welcomes new volunteers, who can offer service and warmth to our downtown neighbors. If you are interested in getting connected to ESM or have any questions, please contact Rev. Dan or Karen Wilson.

Who we ARe:

We are a historic American Baptist Church in burgeoning downtown Colorado Springs, where its members have been worshiping on the same corner since 1872. We are an ecumenically-minded body, partnering across denominational lines to serve the most vulnerable in our community. Our membership is comprised of people who spread the gamut theologically, racially, politically, and economically. FBC-CS strives to practice a tradition of inclusiveness in all we do.
